🌗💫🌓 This video is an illustration of the how the 18.6 year precession of the orientation of the lunar orbit causes the changing positions of the moon in the sky as it swings back and forth from maximum northern and southern positions over its ~monthly cycle, and how this range changes from a minimum to an absolute maximum over the entire 18.6 year lunar standstill cycle from major lunar standstill to minor lunar standstill and back again. You can read the information captions or just sit back, watch, and take in the rhythm of the pattern.

Check out Moon Tracks by Ron Sutcliffe 2006. It has a great explanation of regression of the lunar nodes and great diagrams to go along with the narrative text. I like this site very much but this animation is too complicated for me to appreciate.

I wish the explanation had included how this progression might look to an observer on the ground. I'm working on a film project about the observation of this Lunar standstill in relationship to petroglyphs made by the civilization of Chaco Canyon in New Mexico, 850 to 1250 CE. That's why I'm interested in the ground level point of view. I appreciate the good, hard work you've produced with your animation. I'm seeking an explanation in simple English and animation that someone with a general high school education could grasp in a few sentences.
