You see, it's actually part of his ingenious plan. You can't kill a baby in fiction, it has way too much plot armour, thus he drops the baby as it cannot be killed like a mere mortal man . Truly an oscar worthy picture

You guys are misunderstanding this. First of all, the baby had the skills to both grasp and cling on to his shoe. Which mean the baby has unusual strength and coordination. By letting the shoe go, it allows for the father to train his child in order to become super powerful. The baby will develop powerful capabilities from this traumatic incident. This is the ultimate act of love.

This is good parenting. The father is teaching the baby a lesson that will stay with him for the rest of his life.
