The Ampeg V4B was in that power band, great bass amp used on MANY famouse tracks. With a high efficiency set of speakers that would still be well able to deal with real venue gigs. Especially if supported with mic feed to PA. Nice piece of kit. Headroom is the main consideration. If you want your bass CLEAN then, maybe other choices, but if you're a tube bass amp nut who likes some texture.. schweet. I use the Samsystems Intgral speaker mics in my bass cabs for feed to PA rather than DI. You get full flavour of your speakers + amp then.

Nice review. I would love to try this amp myself.
There might be some situations for live, but it might be not loud enough and also to inconvenient compared to a class D amp.
But I agree every studio that records rock should have it.

My SVT 8x10 cab is fix in the rehearsal room. Put it in for ever and take out the amp is only moving once for tube service every decade. For Gigs a 1x15" and a class D works fine. In the Studio I use an old Fender Bassman 70 with a 2x12" Cab. Wonderful, perfect, flexible sound. I can recomand this ensamble and it is much cheaper.

3000.- EUR lol.. just look out for or Dynacord bass amps (Bass King with 35 W or if you get lucky like me: Imperator with 80 Watt). For the Imperator I paid around 300.- EUR and for the Bass Kings 300.- EUR including the matched cab!
