In this special episode of Andscape at the Olympics, ESPN/Andscape commentator Ari Chambers and columnist William C. Rhoden sit down to talk about the story of women's gymnastics: The International Olympic Committee announcing Sunday that USA gymnast Jordan Chiles has to return her bronze medal she won in the floor exercise after the Court of Arbitration for Sport voided an appeal from Chiles' coach. The group gets into the context of how this happened (0:38), the damage that has been done (3:50), how Chambers would rule on the appeal (7:13), what extent politics play into the outcome, including the Romanian prime minster saying he would protest the closing ceremony (8:47) and Chambers wrapping up her first Olympic experience (12:35). #Andscape

This should never happen in the Olympics. Never. The judges should be held accountable. Right?! smdh

All sports pretty much have video challenges now: tennis, football, basketball etc. why? Because referees, umpires can get it wrong in the moment. We all have learned to accept the outcome of the challenge. It looks like Gymnasts need to too. We are pass given entitlement trophies in the Olympics. I still have the sadness over video challenges and games my teams have loss- —This is some sore loser BS

I agree with everything said in this video! A bronze given over a time reg vs. A bronze winning routine evaluated wrong in the first place.
But, with this new appeal claiming to have timestamp video evidence it was submitted in time, I'm now wondering where Romania got their initial timeline from. Were they counting down the one minute while already celebrating? Where did this "one minute 4 sec" come from? If there is timestamped video evidence, will the next turn of events show this initial counterclaim to be fabricated? How many times can these committees mess up? The spotlight should be on them.

CAS Court of Arbitration for Sport is the biggest culprit in this debacle by not accepting that the judges were at fault for accepting the inquiry to begin with, if in fact, it was 4 seconds past the time deadline. New video evidence submitted by USOPC /US Gymnastics to CAS shows that the inquiry submitted by the coaches was done at 47 seconds and a second inquiry was submitted at 55 seconds which means CAS got it wrong! Plus, the fact that the judges accepted the inquiry should have ended the appeal by the Romanians so for the CAS to have granted the appeal that then forced the International Gymnastics Federation - FIG to revert Jordan's score which then led to the IOC, because of their rule of not allowing athletes to tie, asking for the medal to be returned is wrong. And let's point this out, also, Ana tied with her teammate Sabrina with the score of 13.700 & no one is talking about this & how that tie breaker was broken. Supposedly, Sabrina stepped out of bounds which was also in question which the Romanians appealed, also, but lost that appeal due to the fact that they did not submit and inquiry during the competition, so Sabrina's score remains at a 13.700 instead of a 13.800 which would have put her in 3rd place but everyone is so focused on Ana that they do not seem to understand that her teammate also lost out. Bottom line: The judges screwed up but then fixed their mistake, which is why inquiries are allowed in gymnastics, which gave Jordan the bronze she rightfully earned with her corrected score of a 13.766 which beats out both Sabrina and Ana's scores of a 13.700 which puts them in a tie for fourth (how they broke this tie was based of their execution scores, Ana's score was higher than Sabrina's even though Sabrina's Difficulty score was higher than Ana's)

I don’t think anyone would have been upset to see Sabrina win bronze if her score wasn’t messed up but since nothing could be done about her score it’s between Ana and Jordan. Between Ana and Jordan, Jordan should have been able to keep bronze. Sabrina was wrong but her whole situation is a non factor because it couldn’t be changed. This is why the woman in the video is only focused on Jordan and Ana.

Objectively (which doesn't happen in WAG), Sarina clearly had the best performance of the three routines in question. There is no greater privilege in gymnastics than being a member of the US team. Again, objectively proven. Our athletes are consistently OVER scored relative to other athletes on similar skills. The fact that Jordan will lose that medal based upon a technicality should not overshadow the fact she never should have had it in the first place. Moreover, the wrong Romanian ends up as the beneficiary. A complete mess.

Jordan completed the tour jete full. Her D-score should have been 5.9 not 5.8. The judges made an error. Jordan earned the bronze. Period. Them stealing the bronze Jordan earned is disgusting and Romania is just desperate because they haven't medaled in over a decade. Black gymnasts often aren't given the appropriate credit for elements they complete. Jordan herself has spoken out about judges not giving her credit for skills she completes. Black gymnasts usually don't say anything when they are under-credited but with this being the Olympics, her coach wasn't going to let Jordan get cheated. This is so disgusting.

But Sabrina didn’t step out of bounds!!! That’s the issue! If there was anything wrong with judging was Sabrina! So if we’re going to based this on what was performed on the floor, Sabrina should have received the bronze. I’m so pissed at the FIG and CAS, they will never admit fault: it’s always on the athlete! And that’s not fair. In the end 3 gymnasts are hurt because a governing body is refusing to take accountability!

At a point I feel Romania gymnastics coaches' have a favourite among their gymnast. Why are they fighting for some who didn't earned the bronze? Why not fight for Sabrina's score to eliminate the penalty.
A bunch of hypocrites

It was done on purpose to give glory to the Romanians because they haven’t won in more then 12 years
