As a CS grad I can confirm you should not go to school for coding or web development. In fact, if a school is offering a degree in “coding” or webdev… u shouldn’t go to that school at all.

Webdev is mostly offered as a course (or 2) in Computer Science. Not as a whole major. And anybody worth their weight in my field will tell you programming or “coding” is not a study.

Programming to a software engineer is like learning to use a scalpel to a surgeon. It’s important, but it’s not why you go to school for 8 years. It’s just a tool you can learn in a long weekend.

did he edit the page's html for that? cuz Chatgpt is never so succinct in its reply, always opting for more nuanced explanations even if it gives a definite answer

Do you have to? No.
But many jobs will ask for a college degree because it's a very easy way for them to guage your level of knowledge without looking to deep.
Once you have experience though your second job won't really care because it's all about experience from then on out.

I do interviews for graduate roles and we don't look at CVs from people without a degree. When I have to reduce over 100 applicants down to say 20 people for the 3-5 roles we need to fill it's easier to discard those CVs than waste additional time figuring put their level of knowledge.
