Schwinn Axum DP or Comp X? Which to buy in 2024 and which to Upgrade?

I've enjoyed my upgraded Schwinn Axum DP, but the newest Axum is the Comp X. Do I roll parts from the DP to the X or is Project Axum DP so good that it shouldn't be messed with? I'm also in need of a wheel set for my eMTB and those Bontrager Line Comp 30 wheels on the DP are a potential target for looting....it's a tough decision. What do you think? Comment below

I'm so jealous of these! I moved recently and got my trash bike out after more than 2 years! Rode it a couple of times before it started falling apart back when i bought it, but after riding it again in its terrible state, i felt the urge to fix it! Making it a project bike is a bridge too far considering it's quality, but damnit, it felt good to be back on a bike in the city i got my first ever bike as a kid!

My 2020 Schwinn Taff has a tapered head tube as well. Good stuff! The Axum DP was probably the best one they've had.

I think the greatest advantage of thru axles, for people like myself who aren't riding hard enough to benefit from the added stiffness, is the fact that it makes it easier to re-install the wheels. Not having to deal with disc rotor rub, unlike with pretty much every time I re-seat a QR wheel, is nice. But if that's not of concern to you, I don't think it would be worth converting these wheels and having to buy a new fork.

I have and had several of the original Axums and I just purchased the Axum Comp X. The only thing original on it now is the dropper post. I transferred the wheelset (WTB) and Deore 12spd drive train over to the X. The X is OK as is. The reach OG Axum feels better as I have long arms. The X seems as it's better suited for the trails as the OG Axum is more XC. IMO.

I have the Axum DP and it freekin awesome! Especially with an upgraded fork. I would like to have the Comp X though.

I have had those tyres & the same wheels on my Trek. The tyres are hopeless on wet trails. I swapped them for Schwalbe Smart Sam tyres

I think if you do decide to do a comparison of the bikes, by putting the upgraded parts (fork, wheelset, brakes, cranks, etc.) You'll have known good components and would really test the new frame to see if it's better than the previous.

Axum DP > Conp X

My black OG Axum is mostly done (needs cranks, bb and seatpost). I think I am about 1200 into it and it is brilliant.

You should include compression-less brake housing in your upcoming hydraulic versus mechanical brakes video. Compression-less housing really increases the braking power on mechanical disc brakes. It’s not terribly expensive either, especially if you have a bike shop that sells it off a spool.

i mean im pretty sure those are the wheels that came on my 2023 trek fuel ex 8 gen 2. rear one basicaly is fubar so i replaced it with an industry 9 hyrdra enduro wheel. I dont think the bontrager wheels would accept the extra abuse dished out by an EMTB
