Disney, bring back traditional animation.

With most studios, particularly Disney, only theatrically releasing 3D CGI animated movies, traditional 2D animation has become looked at as outdated & lesser than. That's messed up...

BRING BACK TRADITIONAL ANIMATION!

Really surprised there was no mention of Princess and the Frog! I adore that movie so much because I feel it blurs the line between modern and classic so well, making it incredibly timeless. One of my top comfort movies. Hopefully one day we have a Disney Renaissance of the classic animation style and continued exploration of iconic folktales.

I hope Disney adapts Thumbelina, The Princess and the Pea, and Swan Lake since they are the only well known princess stories that have yet to be adapted. And if they want to do diverse stories, I read a book on African Fairy Tales that can be a reliable source of story ideas.

I cannot stand when they say oh 2d is so childish when clearly cg is full of slap stick humor these days but there's so much more eloquence in 2d animation.

i miss it too and i REALLY hope they return to thier fairytale musical format that made them iconic. but i’d be very intrigued once disney does return to hand drawn.. what will the box office be. because people “talk” about missing it but i fear they won’t show up to actually support it since the public has been programmed to only cgi animation for the last 20 years.

Tommy Ross my goal as a future filmmaker is to establish my own animation studio that focuses only on 2D animated feature films that evoke nostalgia in both storytelling and diverse forms of animation styles which are currently lost in the modern era. My hope is that my studio will achieve the same success as Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks, Studio Ghibli, Don Bluth, and Cartoon Saloon have over the decades, particularly in their early beginnings.

I have also taken interest of adapting fairy tales or original novels that Disney may have considered doing but was abandoned in favor of another project that has more commercial appeal.

4:15 Well, you get my vote. If this happened I would actually spend money to see a Disney film at the cinema.
At least we still have studios like Ghibli and Cartoon Saloon making real animated films. 'How Do You Live?' is out this year I believe.

It is a art though a newer reality
And no matter of the childish things people say we must take it seriously to prove things of it’s existence

God I miss traditional hand drawn animation. I get that 3D is usually easier to work with, and you have more creative freedom like background details, textures and camera movements. Even so, it just doesn't have that artistic freedom or charm that you can only achieve with a sheet of paper and a pencil

I got a question? Why do we keep doing this to ourselves? Like why do we have to follow what Disney has laid out? why not just create your own things? Like why do we have to wait for them to decide what will be normal or standard? If traditional animation is what you want then why don't you just go seek it if you are a journalist go and find these individual in the animators and put them out there! There are tons of animators out there who needs exposure if we can do this for all of these independent animators with their studios then we're going to have way more than Disney to worry about we'll have more variety of different types of animation therefore keeping traditional things alive forever and not let it die! So go and find these animators they need the exposure if your journalist this is going to be a lot of things you can talk about and work on there's just so many independent artists that you can go and visit that want the exposure but they don't know how that's where you come in! It'll give you a reason to travel the world and see what other parts of the countries are doing and why and learn and share the experience therefore allowing this to evolve to the next level to the next day well still keeping it original keeping it traditional at the same time!

If you write animated features, Bambi's Children, Through the Looking Glass, Peter Pan in Kensington Garden, the Starlight Barking and the Second Jungle Book, The Rescuers series and the Chronicles of Prydain series, would you make them in hand drawn animated?

If Disney was going to adapt fairy tales like they used to do Them do is 12 dancing princess But have it taped place in the 1970s And Rumpelstiltskin Or the 3 little pigs But make it all girl pigs And have it be about feminism And girl empowerment Story Or their own version of thumlina And don't do it like the Don bluth Have thumblina be a very strong and very independent Character And also do CGI remake Of Anastasia And have the original voice cast

Nothing happened to it. It just isn't what is wanted. Not worth it to put resources in that don't generate income. There are still studios that do hand drawn animation.

But you need to know that 3d has been a part of Disney for a VERY long time. 101 Dalmatians rotoscoped in physical fx shots for the crash into the snow. Cardboard cutouts of her car and Styrofoam pellets for snow. Did a good job comping it but you can clearly see the difference in the shot. Fast forward and Beauty and the Beast was doing almost entirely 3d rendered shots for a couple scenes. Disney jas been working on this for decades. And finding ways to blend the hand drawn look with what 3d can offer. They've even done some shorts that significantly blurred those lines (Paperman). They have evolved to their current style which is a mix of 2d and 3d techniques in a 3d environment. And it will continue to evolve. Even from Snow White to Dumbo they made significant changes to process, tools, tech, and abilities. This is what happens over a century. Change. It's the only constant.

I couldn't even get through strange world the acting was just so bland. And the message sounded extremely similar to Moana.

NO, 2D ANIMATION IS ATROCIOUS. DO YOU EVEN UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT? 2D DISNEY WAS THE ERA OF DISNEY ADDING INAPPROPRIATE MOMENTS IN THEIR MOVIES. THAT'S WHY 2D DISNEY IS WORSE THAN 3D DISNEY.
