I used gorilla super glue and permatex liquid electrical tape on my guitar case a few weeks and it worked great. I'm very satisfied with the result. The color matches so close to the black tolex that it's barely noticeable. I also use the liquid tape when repairing damaged electrical wires on my cars for much longer time and noticed how well it bonds to the plastic coating on wires. It doesn't bond well to metals but It bonds very well to plastics.

I found a hair dryer to work very well to soften the tolex before gluing.

A black magic marker is useful for blending in the repaired area.

Thank you for this tip. I was about to use epoxy, but this may just do the trick on flat areas. On curved areas, where you can't use weights, it's probably best to use epoxy because it sets much faster, 5 min max. The downside is you can't wipe it off, you need to be precise with applying epoxy.

You can also use painters tape to hold the flaps you glued down. I draw an arrow on the tape from the secure side to the edge I glued. Then I pull off the tape in the direction of the repair. So it doesn't make it come up.

Why wouldn't you just wipe up the excess glue BEFORE it dries?

What do you do if there are small pieces of tolex missing, in muliple places. I assume someone cut the flapping part off instead of gluing back on. Thanks.
