I would not call these streets, they are alleyways, except the first ones. I doubt any of the later ones actually have entrances to houses on them.
Most of them are just due to weird building rules at the time. I know for example in Germany there was a time in the middle ages where people got taxed exclusively on the size of the ground floor, which meant people would try to build their houses wider towards the top.
There's actually quite a few small streets that are practically tunnels, even though you're technically walking between two seperate houses.

They just called small gaps between buildings a street and called it a day

What does define street here? The first one would be considered wide by Tokyo backstreet users. There are hundreds of narrow footpathes between "real" streets or to house entrances or shrines.

Yeah this is super disingenuous. “Street” isn’t a well defined international standard so whilst some of these are locally classed as “streets” they function as alleyways or footpaths.
My address is on walk” but it’s wide enough for motorised vehicles. But then there’s another building near me on street” thats entirely pedestrian and has enough landscaping that a standard sized motor vehicle wouldn’t fit.

Whether you call it a street or an alley is really just a matter of opinion though, isn't it? Those are not streets, they are just alleys that people are calling streets. So no, it's not crazy at all.

Yes, if you completely remove everything we use to define a street, they can be as narrow as you want. Good video

Fantan Alley is a real fun excursion, when I am in a touristy mood roaming my hometown.

Just walked past FanTan Alley tonight! It’s a really cool little street in Chinatown. Lots of cool shops and old buildings.

It's nice that there are at least some streets where you can't get run over by an SUV in.

The Schnoor in Bremen is a small medieval city district full of narrow streets. Visitting there gave me a idea on what's possible and I loved it.

Theres one in iran called "consolation street" in Shiraz. Because it can't fit 2 people side by side, but it can if they go horizontally. People go there and hug each other because there's no room for a punch

In a lot of places, the minimum width of a street is that which would allow an emergency vehicle to pass through and perform its duties.

I’m glad Fan Tan Alley made the list 😅 I live in Victoria and it’s always fun to go downtown and see this. There’s a few shops and businesses in the alley and it’s a total tourist trap, but most people are respectful about letting people go in and out the narrow entries, and not just blocking it with photo ops.
