WWI Tanks: Saint-Chamond

One rival company based at Saint Chamond started to develop its own tank design under technical director Colonel Émile Rimailho.

By early 1916 the first prototype was built at Saint Chamond factory. Development was slow and it took until May 1917, for the first service examples to be ready, making it the second tank to be built by the French.

I used this tank in BF1 like the French army did by using it as a mobile assault gun, and it surprisingly worked out really well

The saint chamond is more like an SPG than a heavy tank

Just watched All Quiet on the Western Front and I think this is the Tank in the film. I guess that last deployment near the end of the war was what they depicted.

This tank was a beast in BF1. I used it for a very long time after the French DLC dropped. It was a bit unrealistic in BF1, by having the gun traverse that much on that position. IRL, it could move only about 6° to the sides, requiring the coordination of both the gunner, commander and driver to pull off a shot into a moving target.

The standard package (with the low-velocity 75mm gun and the pigeon strike) was probably the worst package in the game. The pigeon strike only worked in certain scenarios, and people mostly used AT Grenades and the AT Launcher from a distance, making it completely useless. You also needed a 2nd person on the front facing MG to fend off infantry if you ran out of cannon ammo.

The gas package was extremely OP in the beginning, as the airburst rounds easily killed off any infantry in the area and demolished every structure it could find its way into, and the gas prevented the enemies from aiming down sights with their weapons (something that came in very handy for friendly infantry to have an edge over the enemy when taking a point). The airburst round later got nerfed in the game, unfortunately.

Finally, the anti-tank package (which changed the tank's model into the Late variant, evidenced by a single observation post instead of 3, angled roof and better 75mm gun), was evidently the best one. Not only you had a very effective AT main gun, but you also had control over the bow MG and a searchlight that spotted everything in your cone of view, allowing your teammates to once again, have an edge over the enemy.
