Couples and moments are an important part of statics. I show you how to solve a statics problem both with and without using an equivalent moment. The answer is the same both ways, so they are mathmatically equivalent.

Many years later and I'm watching this video, preparing for a test. You explain it very well. Thank you (from Denmark btw)!

You sir are indeed a rock freaking star!!

I started watching your videos a few years ago and whenever I tend to forget something or want to learn something new I always end up on one of your stuff.

Thanks again for making this free. I know that it definitely cost you something to learn it

i know this video is 5 years old but like after watching something i already knew but just told to me in such a clear way it just made me understand everything really well instead of memorising every scenario. Thank you

Thank you so much sir it did help me. I hope there will be videos regarding different terminologies used for the same types of problems to achieve application and exam orientation. It's encouraging to keep learning everything that comes my way but hard to find out what's relevant.

I am a computer professional pursuing Mechanical engineering out of interest in Mechanics for Robotics. I do it at Institute of Engineers(India) which  was established by British in my country- the course is tough but there lies the challenge.

Thanks again and am looking forward to learn a lot from you.

My professor told that "every couple has its moment". Suddenly the entire class started to laugh like hell. Well he said that in purpose although he was actually right and true... Hahaha

You didn't mention which point you chose as the pivot when shifting the force to get the moment. Do you just assume?

WHY

how do u assume that the force at Point B is going downwards

Hey Professor, I have a question to you that I saw you moving the upward force (100N)to the center of the bar (i assume). Do I have to move the downward force to center as well as? thanks

Still confused... at the end, did you just divide the moments you know by the length of the body? or where did the 3 come from?

ToothbrushGuy

Does that mean with couple and moments we dont need to draw freebody diagram or what?

when you do the second method, do you assume the direction of moment for both Fa and Fb?

The force on the left side would cause an opposite moment.
