Most people have been trained to become Left brain - in their jobs, at school or College. But today's world needs you to be more creative, have more ideas and use your imagination.

Are you mostly a left-brainer? ('Left brain' people are often busy, systematic, notice details and have an orderly, common-sense approach to life.) If you are, you probably find generating new ideas or being imaginative (mostly Right brain skills) a bit of a challenge. But it doesn't need to be.

You already have Right brain skills - it is just that school and work mostly reward left-brain thinking and practice. So your right brain gets a bit under-used. When you were very young you used all of your senses - seeing, hearing, touching, tasting and smelling things - that's how you learned to understand your world.

To be creative and imaginative, you need to give your senses a chance to work again - this video has some pointers for practice. It is just one of the Memory Foundation's many brain tools which help you improve your brain and grow new brain connections. Dr Allison Lamont PhD, MA, M.APS and Gillian Eadie MEd, BA, Dip Tchg focus on challenging your brain to grow the new brain connections you need as a buffer against memory loss in older age. Baby boomers need this information to keep brain fit! It's a prescription-free way to fight back against Alzheimer's and dementia. When you are 50+ is the best time to start.

And you can get access to more help with the three-part brain training program, Brain Tune, that teaches you strategies for overcoming those annoying everyday forgetting like people's names, where you left the car-keys and why you didn't remember to get milk at the supermarket.

And you'll love this easy-read best-seller, 'Seven Second Memory: Memory Techniques that will change your life' written by Dr Lamont and Gillian Eadie.. Sold in 40 countries. It's a great gift for your parents, too:

Not sure if you are Left brain or Right brain?

You use your Right brain for things that engage your your creative side and Left brain for actions that require reasoning and logic. A 'Right-brain' people tend to be more relaxed, artistic and imaginative.

You've probably heard that people are supposed to be one or the other and, in a way, there is some evidence that each of the two hemispheres of the brain tend to be activated for different kinds of tasks.

But the truth is, of course, that EVERY memory task works better if ALL areas of the brain are used.

Did you try the Right brain/Left brain exercise that helps you practise using both sides of the brain?

Train your right brain, that is such a left-brainer thing to do.

Lol this video's gonna get me killed XD

step 1: hammer in a nail with your left hand while your eyes are closed.
step 2: walk backwards, with your feet aligned, eyes closed, on the edge of a building.
step 3: try to throw a baseball with your left hand, backwards, upside down, on fire with your eyes closed.

Have two left brain boys.  I love the idea of writing the name in all angles.  :)

Great! There are surely some ways we could activate our right brain with sight as well. Perhaps looking at the space or the entire scene without focus. Maybe focusing on a particular eye or eye movement. Idk. Just a hypothesis. Loved this video.

I'm so right brained I'm studying how left brain people think just to do the opposite of this video.
And she mentioned something super important, when struglleing with a tast, my left brained friends, please, step away and listen to music, go look at art or do something fun you love you forget about it. My brain makes me do this in order to figure out an answer that hasn't been presented before subconsciously. That's where my ADHD label comes from, my brains not ready yet because it feels you've missed a step with your way of itemizing and it's giving me it's natural response to give it a second to compute.
Trying to force out an answer only stresses your brain and body out. It's not procrastination, your brain has recognized a problem you haven't.

I always mean to use my left hand but forget. Perhaps I should wear an oven mitt all day. (To remind me)
