Cambridge-based entrepreneur, Kath Austin who started her ethical food wrap company from her kitchen in 2017 is now seeking an investment of £60,000 in return for a 10% equity stake in Beebee Wraps - British made vegan and beeswax food wraps that offer consumers a reusable alternative to clingfilm and single-use plastic.

An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

It's nice when you google the product and it's still available.

You know. I love how the Dragons know when to be harsh, when to be kind, when to be gentle - this may have been a 'grilling' but I felt like they were being very kind to her.

I’m glad she took it constructively. They were all coming from a good place when they said no and Deborah even said you’re not ready yet, leaving the option open to return.

At over £14, I can see this product selling really well in Lidl and Aldi

The Dragons sometimes point at small problems and say 'for that reason I will not invest' - but I thought part of the point was their expertise could solve problems like this.

I've had one of these wrap wax things before and they are really horrible to deal with, when it gets hot outside the wax on the cloth melts off into your food or fingers and they don't even stay closed, you have to use a clip or sellotape to keep them closed. I'll stick to tin foil and my metal lunchbox, at least metal is recyclable and doesn't melt on you!

Why is the onus of not using plastic solely on the consumer while the large manufacturers/companies easily get away with their responsibility for profit maximisation. So, I buy a packet of spices, cereals, etc. it being covered in plastic is my fault because I love plastic?
🙄 Even if a consumer makes a conscious decision to shift to a greener lifestyle, an eco-friendly item is so expensive that it defeats the very purpose. The tipping point will never be reached.

I’m not even sure what kind of problem is a beeswax wrap attempting to solve. Can food not be carried in containers?

I hate environmental solutionism. Use a reusable container instead of fumbling with which version of jajaoba oil won't melt into your food

Debbie - only as 'ethical' as her bank balance allows her to be.

Just gonna throw this out there. What about sandwich containers? I use them everyday and you can use them for different things they can be washed and used till broken which takes years of intentional damage. I feel like that works better than this wax paper.

Why does food need to be wrapped?
Food comes on a plate and when you are finished, the waiter takes it away

Debra just waffles on how she is enviromental concious. She alwsys does a speech about it and then doesnt invest.

I'm stuck on "we've got bees, so we use our own beeswax". That is different level of rich, no?

Fun fact: Some of the microplastics in landfills might actually outlive Deborah Meaden.

makes me slightly proud that the clingfilm I threw in the bin will outlive me by hundreds of years #MyLegacy

£14 a go to replace inexpensive cling film is a very middle-class virtue signalling product. Normal people are too busy trying to pay the bills to worry about this nonsense.
