It’s true— ultra runners are not superhuman! Someone asked me once if I run ultras because I’m tough, I said, “No, I just make questionable decisions.” 😂

Great video today. I think you covered a ton of info. Running with others is fun. There is also therapy in running alone. Keep up the solid videos. Spring time is here!

So many golden nuggets. My favorite race memories are conversations with strangers on the trail as the miles tick by. I will forever wish I’d given ultras a try 20 years earlier, but they’ve definitely extended my running life and made it far more enjoyable. I can’t see me killing myself in a 5/10k road race at 50, but I can’t absolutely see myself enjoying the challenge of a beautiful 50k course with awesome people at 60!

Thanks for the inspiring words buddy. Your so right running is humbling hard difficult challenging and quite often emotional especially when the doubts creep in and a chat along the way with a stranger somehow has the power to lift you to achieve something great, I’ve learnt so much more about myself doing difficult things and passed that on to my children.20 years ago when I decided to run round a field just once because that’s all I could manage I would never have believed I could run multiple marathons and a few ultras. It started with a thought and then took action. Today is the tomorrow you were worried about yesterday someone once said. Your message John is always take that first step. Steve

Just DNF/got timed out on The Highland Fling after 40 miles on Saturday. Was the right thing to do. Everyone should try an ultra. Cheers for the great channel.

Coming off 4 months of no running, due to family and life. And to think just 6 months ago I felt in great shape running my first 42 miller with 11, 000 ft of elevation gain. It was tough, but well worth it. Just started training again last week 2 April and wow it’s hard at 56yrs old you loose fitness quick. Will stay consistent and see how it works out in the near future 90 days test trial. Race in Oct 66km with another one in December 85km trail mountain run. Thanks for the Motivation and dialogue of your content 🤙🏽

I’ll be out there next Sat. wondering the trail for my first Ultra(50k). Goal one finish. Do I have an idea of what time I think I should finish, yeah I do. Do I need to hit that time no, will I be a bit disappointed if I don’t, probably. But, I have never been 30miles before so I really won’t know until I do it. Yeah I’m a bit nervous, but I know I am strong enough to do it physically. The real battle will be in my head. Can’t wait to get out there and find out how far I can go before the real pain sets in. I see Ultra runners as people that need to find their point of personal failure. The point at which we can honestly say that is all I truly have. I haven’t found that yet. Maybe Saturday will. Maybe I will push on to 50miles in 2025. I won’t know until I cross the finish line.
