I had an "overdue" book at the school library once. I went to the shelf, picked up the book, and turned it in.

It's always fun when a new manager comes in and, as their first act, decides to change the policies and procedures without understanding why they current ones are in place.

That old saying about being careful what you wish for is very true.

I have worked in library as a student. The library I worked for knew exactly what had been turned in. So we never had the problem of falsely accusing anyone of not turning something in. We did have a big problem with misshelved books. Since it was a rather large library, covering several buildings, finding misshelved books was a big problem. However, at least the library I was associated with was aware they had a misshelved book problem.

I remember in high school I borrowed a book to do a report for a class. A boy in my class borrowed another copy of the same book. . I did my report first and turned my book back in, my classmate still had his copy and hadn’t done his report yet( they were given orally in front of the class using the book of your choice). I ended up getting charged for the other student’s overdue book because when I returned my book it got credited to his name instead mine. I couldn’t prove it and was made to pay the fine!

I never have understood why some of these new bosses come in and shake things up. I'd be like, "Keep doing what you're doing. If I start getting reamed then we can find a way to meet corporate's goals. Until such time I see no need to shake things up here." So long as you are making the company money there shouldn't be a problem. You start operating in the red and then you can start shaking things up.
