When the Olympic Games finally returned home to Athens, the eyes of the world were drawn to a uniquely Greek design program.

Every Olympiad I get curious about what additional prizes are handed out to the medalists along with the medals themselves. Athens 2004 had laurel wreaths placed on the athletes’ heads (very Greek), Rio 2016 handed out these wooden sculptures of the Olympic logo and PyeongChang 2018 and Beijing 2022 both incorporated the mascots into the venue ceremony prizes. In PyeongChang, the prize was a plushie of Soohorang the white tiger with streamers attached to it while the Beijing prize is Bing Dwen Dwen with a laurel wreath around it. Now I’m curious about Paris 2024. Eiffel Tower figurines perhaps? The mascots haven’t even been picked out for those games yet, but a previous Olympiad taking place in France did. Keep in mind that this olympics ignited the greek euro crisis. Nevertheless, this olympics showed the best cultural presentation ever, even the Beijing 2008 one.

So the Greek Olympic ceremony was actualy planned in the UK?? I was always convinced it was put together by greeks and greek creativity..I was wrong..

These Olympics were a mess. The olympics had started and the preparations were still underway and mostly never finished. And it basically helped add to the country’s financial debt.
