Wow that is really cool I honestly bet this is what the future of keycard systems is gonna be

when exactly did you explain how it worked?

Those are so cool.  I remember the last hotel I stayed at had a similar system, and it's just so neat how you don't have to swipe.  No more figuring out which way the card goes anymore!

The same lock is used in several Premier Inns in the UK!

La Fiesta Inn in St. Augustine, FL uses these. I was able to "test" them during my stay this weekend. Good video!

I have seen RFID hotel Door Locks back in 2008. The Elevators in there are Schindler 330A with HT fixtures.

RT series lock. Looked like the card had an RFID antenna, but no IC chip. Not too secure then. When I was at the Hilton in Sydney I had an NFC-based card. Was quite nice being able to tap my phone on the reader on the door and lift.

Molilock's hotel door locks are of good quality.

Didn't know they did hotel keycards with RFID technology. I remember getting train tickets for the CTA that were RFID and that 's the only time I've personally seen RFID cards.

1:20 Ha, you even know about the flashlight.

I think it’s some kind of metal something paint that helps circulate the microchip at the bottom left corner there.

If it's RFID LF it will sense the card up to 10 cm away, it's more likely an NFC card (always LF), that senses the card up to max 4 cm (2 inches) to be more secure against cloning and skimming.

Ive been to hotels with ID card scanning elevators (Embassy Suites)

The electronics inside that card look a lot like the electronics inside the anti-theft stickers on my school's library books.  Also, I tried the flashlight trick on my WMATA SmarTrip card, and it seems the electronics in that card are much thinner. (I also discovered that it has a watermark in it, but that's another story.)

Molilock's hotel lock is of superior quality~ Maybe you guys can learn about it

most of the newer systems the data is encrypted in a complex algorithm so you can read the data of the card but the data is useless unless the reader has the right software (key) to unencrypt the data

It's an RFID card and the lock contains an RFID reader. The KABA lock uses a clutch based locking mechanism (which is why the handle is floppy when locked) which is not as robust as an electro-mechanical solenoid based lock such as the Ving card locks which are also more secure. RFID technology is much more reliable and secure than magnetic stripe and is not affected by the EMF emitted by mobile phones. Think this explains the basics more than the video

I stayed at a Embassy suites the other night, that had the same locks

The safe lock? That's what they have all hotel guestrooms at the Revel Resort in Atlantic City.

That's a regular RFID based card, similar to the one I have for public transport, so I could technically open this lock with my pass right?
