Ashes sitting at funeral homes for months or years, families unable to grieve or find a time to gather. Patty Schachtner wants us to start to talk about death. Conversation is needed in our families and communities because in our culture, death is becoming an inconvenience.

St. Croix County Chief Medical Examiner, Patty Schachtner is a Death Investigator and Co-Founder of the Suicide Prevention Task Force of St. Croix County, Wisconsin. Patty thinks it's about time we talk about death.

My husband recently died, here at home, from cancer, with the help of hospice.
One day the hospice director told me how good it was to talk to someone like me, where they didn't have to use euphemisms and dance around the subject of my husband's impending death! Even when someone is on hospice, people don't want to face it. I just don't get it. Face it now..it only gets harder if you don't.
