Two years ago, the Kindle Scribe launched with high hopes from fans. But while the hardware was solid, the software left much to be desired. Fast forward to today, Amazon has not only addressed many of those issues but also added a refreshed design and a standout feature for annotating ebooks.

Let’s check out why I think the Kindle Scribe became one of the easiest to recommend notetaking e-readers on the market.

I traded in my Scribe after using and enjoying it for about a year. I got a decent amount of credit from Amazon for it and put that credit towards the new Signature Paperwhite (In metallic jade) during the Black Friday sales. I liked the Scribe but used it mostly for reading and not notes. The new Paperwhite is my favorite Kindle yet! I love reading on it and average about three books a month. The battery life is amazing! Thanks for your many reviews. It has given me a lot of insight as a consumer. Wishing you a lovely holiday season. ❤

I tried the New Scribe but after 5-10 minutes, decided to returned it. Not an upgrade and prefer the black borders on my 2022 Scribe.

Thank you for this explicit video.
For my part, I chose the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition for reading, and the reMarKable 2 for taking notes.

I bought it one week ago and I really like it :) although I had a paper white before and didn’t have the previous kindle scribe, I think this new look is more comfortable for reading due to its white frame.

Something to note, that I don’t see people mention…is that the rubber feet aren’t just On the Scribe, they are embedded into the Scribe (Old and New version). Which, is more premium.

First e-ink writing tablet and first large kindle. I've had it for a few weeks and like it so far. Especially for reading, I had a smaller kindle for reading and find that I read a lot more on the bigger display. The writing capabilities is really good as well.

I have the Scribe 1 (32) and have updated to the latest software. Now it is fantastic. I do wish the OCR stayed on the Scribe instead of needing to go out to Amazon for the conversion.

Question: I noticed that when you underline or highlight the text you don't get a popup menu (4:58). Every time I highlight I get a popup menu. This popup has to be dismissed (by touching the surface) before I can continue highlighting another word or phrase. Is there a setting that prevents the popup after each highlight/underline?

Thanks for the review. Until I can mark up a document the same way I'd mark up a paper book (in your example circle / add arrows) I'll stick with my Remarkable.

Got mine yesterday, I'm disappointed you can't use your audible with e-books at the same time because I like doing that on my iphone and ipad for better immersion. I really hope they add that in an update, because clearly the tech is already there for reading and listening. That's mostly my fault because I assumed it did. Other than that, I really love it.

@Chalid - I can't highlight or underline line after a line like you. Always when i finish highlight or line an option bubble pops up - Delete A Note and search. how to get rid of it?

First, thank you very much for your video.

Sorry if you already said it in your video. Will this new annotation system be available for the previous Kindle Scribe?

Thanks in advance!

how do you have different screensavers? I've upgraded my 2022 Scribe with the new software - but screensavers are still the same.

Hello! Is it possible to annotate PDFs while in landscape mode?

The Active Canvas is even better than scribbling in the margin of a physical book. This is huge, especially for my visually impaired child who needs to adjust font size in reading.

Do you know when this feature comes to older Kindles?

Does ActiveScribe work on imported EPUB books?

Love your channel. I have the 2022 scribe but I don't have the new note taking features you showed here. My account and device are from Canada. Is it still coming to other territories?

Will you also be doing a review of the bigme b1051 b/w you mentioned in the video?

Hello! Unrelated to this video but I wanted to thank you for helping me choose an e-reader for my girlfriend this Christmas! (After your thorough reviews, I went for a Boox Go 7 while it was on sale)

I believe the AI features are not hardware based or location based, but based on the address of the Amazon account used to log in to the device. Perhaps someone can test this, but that's my impression from reports I've read.

Thank you for your very informative video. I have the original Scribe and am wondering when the software update will be available over the air. Interesting that Amazon might be allowing in-margin annotations soon.
