Earlier it's been established that Scout can't interact with the world, i.e. the cup, but the twist in delivery comes when it's shown he can hold the Bonk can perfectly, but with animation guides surrounding it, telling us both that he indeed can break his simulation, but is still constrained by the plot given to him by the animator.
