I started with Year one then the Long Halloween and Dark Victory. I see why directors get inspired with The Long Halloween.

I would argue against White Knight for new readers as it's more of a deconstruction, then again the author has admitted he hasn't read many comics. Other great suggestions would be Batman: Ego and Batman: Shamon since they helped inspire The Batman. I personally would add Journey Into Knight but DC seem allergic to reprinting it.

I love Batman the Knight I highly recommend it it's a great retelling of his origin
