This tip sounds very sensible and logical. It seems odd that I've never heard anybody mention it before.

Finally. Someone who explains the basic theory of guitar. Thank you so much. You have improved my playing. To thin of a pick makes a huge difference.

Jazz III are great I REALLY LOVE the Joe Petrucci black 2 mil thick though. You have got to try these. They will make you a lot more accurate. 1 day i bought about 20, laid them all out in front of me. Grabbed my guitar and TURNED OUT THE LIGHTS. one by one i played them int the dark. The ones i liked i put to the left, and the ones i didnt i put to the right. I liked the stubby dunlop 2 mil, the jazz iii but the petrucci picks are the best in my oppinion. try in the dark and you really get a FEEL for them. just my 2 cents. hope this helps.

You are a Master Claus! I use a 2.75 mm Medium Rounded V-Pick. Best pick ever in my opinion...

when i was learning high speed picking i always had 2 picks next to me.. 1 "practice pick" (a really fat pick), 2 a normal pick.. and it helped alot for practicing as i would practice slowly with the fat pick and then refine...

Claus, I have been rhythm playing guitar for years and years and now I understand why I could never gain mastery with my picking! I am running out this minute to get a big, fat pick! I'll let you know how it goes.

I've used Dunlop Tortex's for about 3 years now. Anything made out of delrin is pretty durable and lasts. Dunlop Gator's tend to wear out quicker and leave shreds of the worn pick that won't come off, which I find to be pretty annoying. Also, I find that Nylon picks 1mm+ are great as well, as nylon picks wear down even less than hard plastic picks. Sharp picks I would also use are ultex and delrin. But for the most part, any delrin pick 0.70mm+ will do okay for me. A 0.60mm delrin pick is the lowest I'll go, and it's pretty thin, but the material is much thicker.

I've been making my own picks out of beef femur bones that my dog let's me use, good thickness bout what that purples got. But I do have a "bone to pick" with how soft they are, ie they lose their tip contour a lil faster than regular non boney plects.

I started of with a light pick and THEN I switched to a 3.0 DADI which has an round indentation on both side which makes it easier to grip. Dunlop makes a pick which is identical. The difference was night and day. I love the super heavy pick and my picking speed and accuracy has increased markedly.

My playing has leaped forward since I switched to a 3mm Gravity pick.

I like to feel the plucks in fast picking hence I use thin picks. Grazing with a fat pick just doesn’t have the “feel”’for me. Personal preference I guess

Didn't work for me, been picking for 60 years now, and use rounded triangles of Tortoiseshell, and Blue Chip picks of nearly the same configuration, fairly thick, about twice what most folks like, with the rounded triangle shape, I use a quarter to make the radii, actually tape it to the pick, then file sand and polish, adding a speed bevel if needed, I do this for all three points of the triangle. Pointed picks sound tinny, and one cannot get any volume with a skinny little pick. Round picks work well too especially on mandolins, but for guitar too.

I use pink Dunlop .96mm and sharpen it so it's pointy, makes the world off difference in brightness and attack. I wont ever go back to a standard shaped Dunlop pick without modifying it.

I've been using the Dunlop 417P2.00 Gator Grip 2.0mm Black Guitar Picks. They're easier for me to grip...almost amputated my right I index finger 40 years ago so, I have virtually no tactile feedback from that finger. $3.99 12 pack from Sweetwater sound on eBay.

What kind of round pick are you using? A specific name would be helpful.

Always best to practice with some goofy tool, and then change to something completely different when it's time to shred... Just get a green, blue, or purple Tortex, shave a point on the tip and get to melting faces.
