This reminds me of a true story. Once upon a time, I was on a staff canoe trip and I got stuck riding in a canoe alone with my mean boss. He swore that he hurt his shoulder (not true) so I had to do all the paddling. And then a huge thunderstorm blew up. Super-scary. There was nowhere to shelter and nothing to do but keep going. While I was enduring this endless journey, I happened to look up on the bluff above the river and I saw a large cabin that had a wide sheltered porch with rocking chairs on it. Even though I knew such a thing could never happen, I wished with my whole heart that I could sit on that porch during a thunderstorm watching the lightning in the sky and listening to the raindrops hitting the river. It was such a beautiful place that I never forgot it or the wish that I had, and I thought about it sometimes. Fast forward three years later: I was on an education course for my job and the class had been invited to have a meal at a very exclusive private bird hunting plantation. While we waited to be served, I was quite uncomfortable because I didn't care for all the many taxidermied animals positioned all over the main room, so I wandered out outside to watch a storm coming in over the horizon. As I sat there in a rocking chair on the wide porch that was on a bluff overlooking a river, I suddenly realized that I was exactly where I had longed to be during the awful canoe trip. Sometimes dreams do come true, and I know because this one really did. This video takes me back there.

I cant count the times it was raining like this at night and I grabbed a throw blanket and slept on the front porch on the swing. I love it!

I have six children, but at the time of this camping trip I had four. My husband was a cook and had just changed jobs so he didn't have any vacation time. If anyone knows anything about camping, it's wonderful but a lot of work. My oldest son was 15 and youngest, 3. We packed up the tent, pots and pans and everything needed for our adventure to Temperance River State Park, North of Duluth on Lake Superior. Temperance River is named as such of it's roiling waves as it crashes over giant rocks until it meets the largest fresh water lake in the world. My it was beautiful. Towering pines with no mosquitoes, our state bird. There were no mosquitoes because of the frigid lake waters, even in the middle of the summer. Having settled, making a campfire, watching the Milky Way overhead, the children sleepily crawled into their sleeping bags for the night. I breathed a sigh of relief and accomplishment with a cup of wine in my hand. I did it. Crackling fire. When should I take that bucket of water to extinguish the flames? My question was soon answered. Angry clouds over the bluff with flashes of light began to flicker. Oh oh, I quickly gathered everything and hurtled the stuff into our tent. The rain was not merciful. In my innocence, I thought I could snuggle next to my kids safely in my sleeping bag. The rain turned to a drenching relentless unforgiving downpour for what seemed like, hours. The children slept through it all, not a care in the world as I stood with my arms stretched up holding the ceiling of the tent. Pockets of rain kept forming, sagging the roof. With one arm up I bent down to take another sip of the wine. Oh my, my arms are so tired. When will it stop. The tent will collapse if I don't keep holding on.
I love thunderstorms but not that night. How I wished I was somewhere else that night. But what a wonderful memory and the best time of my life.

I could live in a place like this and feel content till the day I die , can't even believe where I live now, with no way out, old disabled fool that has to stand guard over my beat up vehicle and my door, people sneaking around all dang night, I can sit here at night and watch this and my wife sleep, and wish we were at a palace like this and dream that me and my wife and dog was safe drinking coffee in a nice clean rain storm, this puts me to sleep on my worst nights . thank you so much for posting this awesome dream .
