I personally have highlighted every instance of the use of LORD in my Bible, to remind me to use YAHWEH. I gives me a real sense of His holiness, His nearness and His greatness. YAHWEH seems to invoke, at least in me, a reverence...more so than the word LORD.

Thanks for doing this, Chris, as I made a new friend after church today, a young Jewish man very curious about the Christian faith who would probably get in trouble at his synagogue if they knew he was visiting a reformed PCA church.

I’ve already shared some links to good sites (e.g., about Alfred Edersheim) with him earlier this afternoon and now I will this one, too, as they should be of interest to His friends that the synagogue as he’s already well down the road to believing Jesus is the Christ or, as you say, Yahweh.

I really appreciate how you use the bible to teach us the bible. It is very uplifting to hear the explanations of the words in Hebrew and Greek. I attend a church that teaches the bible verse by verse and it is fulfilling. God has blessed us in these day to have teachers we can hear from all over the world. Why isn't YHWH used in the new testament? Seems like they replaced it with Lord in the tradition of the Pharasees? Thanks for the wonderful explanation. This will be very helpful to share with Christians coming from Jehovah's Witness, Mormon, or other backgrounds where Christ is not regarded as YHWH. Thank you!!!

Thos is why I love using the Legacy Standard Bible in english. It uses Yahweh throughout the Old Testament instead of LORD.

Another excellent explanation - and easy to understand. As a new Christian I remember JWs getting annoyed with me when I said "God" or "Lord" - and they insisted that I was wrong and that His name is Jehovah. Afterwards (so as not to annoy them when I was witnessing) I would call the Lord Jehovah. I also remember asking them what Jesus called Him - and reminded them it was "Father" and that we too are to pray, "Our Father." But later when I researched this I discovered Yahweh is more accurate as the letter "J" was not in the English language until the Middle Ages. The JWs actually agree with this.

More importantly - we should OBEY the name of Yahweh - since His name depicts His character - and He even tells us that He has magnified His Word ABOVE His name.

Thank you for this teaching. I like to use the name "Yahweh" because it distinguishes exactly which God I mean. Not the god of the Mormons. Not the god Allah. The God of the Hebrews is the One to which I a referring.
