It's ridiculous that Brownlee allowed Hipkins to continue a line of questioning which had already been answered. Hipkins was entirely disingenuous in claiming that his question was not adequately answered and his jack-in-the-box performance was a waste of Parliament's time. I think Jones was the one itching to smash Hipkins - and rightly so!

Luxon gave a VERY clear answer multiple times. Brownlee mentioned the MMP system (and implied coalition agreement), David could have answered any questions about the bill.

The government can introduce a bill as the government but it does NOT HAVE TO vote in favour of the bill becoming law. It must go through select committee and three readings before it is finally voted on so there is time for the government - those voted to rule have time to change their mind. This whole treaty bill issue is portrayed by the opposition as a do or die issue even before the process has taken its rightful course - they are using it to discredit the ruling parties as much as possible and taint the democratic process. Hipkins believes the approach they followed under Ardern that there is one podium of truth and its them and they will destroy the democratic system and its processes at will.
