The hole in the resonant head of the bass drum is called MUFFLER, it’s used with a multiple purpose, the first intention (& I think the real one) is of reducing the air compression and having a “soft” response when the pedal batter beats the batter head. Other purpose is to have a less resonant sound. Other purpose is to have a place where the mic fits. Some drummers prefer not having the muffler, some other does. I recommend to try both ways having this on your mind.

This video was incredibly helpful! It's rare to find such a detailed breakdown of a drum set. At the 4:31 mark, there's a mention of "Hi Tom." Shouldn't it be "High Tom" instead?

I'm watching this after 10 yrs of it's upload. Anyone here in 2024?. I'm going to learn about the drums without having drums. I have 2 sticks by the way to get started. I will comeback after completing this series. And This Comment is just a remainder of future me.
