Saltwater is a popular choice for sanitizing pools and spas. While saltwater systems offer many benefits and can make pool care easy, there are still some common issues that occur with saltwater chemistry. This course will focus on identifying the cause of common problems that occur in saltwater pools and how to effectively treat these issues. With a focus on water chemistry, not equipment, discussion will center on issues such as lack of chlorine, ph balance, scale formation and cloudy water.

This video should be a great resource.

The only part I would say is inaccurate is the section on variable speed pumps. Terms like “low” and “high” speed don’t make sense without knowing the flow rate of the system.

A variable speed pump with 2.5 to 3 inch plumbing will flow much more water than a 1.5 inch to 2 inch hydraulic setup with a medium to high total dynamic head.

The amount of water in the pool is the most important factor in determining the pool turnover rate, followed by the actual flow rate. Any system where the pump schedule is designed to hit a minimum of 3 turnovers will have enough flow for almost every salt cell on the market.

However, if it’s a 10, 000 gallon pool, I can see the flow rate to hit 3 turnovers being lower than what some cells require. Therefore, it’s important to consider the actual flow rate rather than the RPMs. This is where a Floviz flow meter comes into play.

Overall, this is a great video.
