Shes right about the growing divide between the rich and lower/middle income. Its been going on for a while and getting wider.

U are absolutely right. I have this vision that 10, 20 years down the road the disparity will be wider and the poor will be struggling

We don't own our home. We are leasing it for 99 years. We paid almost $300K for it & had to return it to our government after the lease is over. We work many long years to pay for our house & at the end of our story we don't have much assets to give as inheritance to our children. How we are going to fare after returning our house to the government can be anyone's story as these cases are still very few for now (about houses being return to the government). Let us hope that there is some compensation for the house we work so hard to get.

Spot on lady. On the wealth disparity. Every election here when bread and butter was an issue the ruling party lost more seats. This coming election may see more seats lost because cost of living has hugely increased due to a raise in GST [goods and services tax].

What she said is true. I am a Malaysian professional living a middle class life with a house, a car and a reasonable comfortable life. I don't think Ican llive like that in Singapore unlike I can earn a lot of moneys. The foods and public transport are relatively cheap and more affordable than in Malaysia. Car and housing aee going through the roof. Unless you are a Singsporean living in HDB flat. Life can be very tough for those who does not high education with good job. With those with not much education and working at low paying job, life can very tough. And it is very very expensive to get married and to raise a family. Unless you are very rich, it is better to live in poorer country in Malaysia where housing and car are so much more affordable.

From foreigners POV, they are able to compare the difference between Singapore and other countries. That is why they appreciate Singapore. However, for the local people, life will definitely get tougher with wider wealth disparity when the population keeps increasing to targeted 6.9mil people by year 2030

From Japan, been to the states and EU, live in Canada, visited Singapore like 10 times and Singapore does really well for poor people and old people without income. So much better than those countries above. Public housing, places where they can eat out cheaply, hanging out at a park or a mall and they can get help from the government easily. They look happier and proud than us for sure.

I see few videos about how great singapore is, but ive yet to meet one who said that when it comes to non financial reason. I think they are financially sound, but many are depressed.

A second hand, lease term, subsidised housing (HDB) will cost easily more than $500k, with a increasing thread of crossing the $1M mark and the latest record for the highest price sold public housing was $1.78m

The key to enjoying a good life in Singapore is to lead a contented life. Live simply. Be frugal. Don’t envy others. Look up and outward in life. Don't look down and inward at yourself. It can be pretty depressing. There are many open public spaces that are free. Enjoy them. Live free. Singapore is an island. Breathe in deeply the clean air at its long beaches. Celebrate life. It's all up to you, the individual.

Poly graduates are facing tough times with BTO 4rooms at average S$550-750k. How to get married and have kids? No wonder the fertility rate is one of the lowest at 1.15. This aging population forced Singapore to import huge numbers of migrant workers growing exponentially to 50% of the population and still rising.

Sadly "wealth disparity" and "developed" country seem to go hand in hand these days, look at the USA for huge wealth disparity.
