ChatGPT Passed A Google Coding Interview. So What?

If anything, this says more about how leetcode style interviews aren’t the best way to pick candidates for swe jobs.

You could use google to cheat in these interviews anyways, and GPT-3 could basically do it 2 years ago. It’d be more embarrassing if ChatGPT couldn’t pass a google coding interview.

I admit Leetcode questions are fine. They get the job done and make for fast recruiting, but asking candidates about their relevant technical experience is definitely a better way to hire people, hopefully, companies try and move away from Leetcode. Call me a hater, but you can’t change my mind.

Good thing about LC interviews is they are agnostic of the tech stack which gives a lot of flexibility to both the candidates and the company. Tech stack driven interviews will have a higher oppose down the line. Going that route I won't be able to switch my domain if I wanted to ever

My grandma can pass his interviews if she is allowed to search for answers like chat bots do.

The scary thing here is that companies are gonna look for automated code generation instead of trying to hire engineers.

I think a better way to evaluate people is by giving some take home assignments. Then again, it's also saying that a person who's done 4 years undergrad is not good enough.

Heck I even know PhD grads in ai and machine learning being given leet code and assignments for jobs. The amount of distrust on a person's credentials is very unhealthy.
