The Women's Health Initiative was a groundbreaking study, but it became center of news and controversy on July 9, 2002, when one of its arms was stopped after results showed that combination hormone therapy (estrogen plus progestin) caused serious health problems such as stroke and cancer, in otherwise healthy women. We caught up with Dr. Vivian Pinn, former director of the Office of Research on Women's Health, to hear about her reflections on the past decade and about the data that the large randomized trial is still providing.
