I’d argue that a decapitated character would be revived only to die instantly because of the same wounds that killed them the first time.

I've actually had this happen in a campaign. Corpses are objects and so the artificer cast mending to reattach the head then the cleric casts revivify simple.

It requires that the creature have all of the necessary organs to live... obviously. It brings the creature back to life, as in actual life, not the "living skeleton" or "zombie" life.

You can revivify a limb, but without a heart and a brain, it won't live very long.

I would say the part needs the components to stay alime normaly( heart, brain and so on)

I thought he was gonna say something about taking the limbs off of an enemy and them reviving them as just a head and torso, leaving them to suffer

When the cleric gets enough rest, or forgives you for the mocking of their class, they can also mend your head back onto your revivified decapitated body

Dismembered [body part] is a undead monster type. As a DM, I'd let you do it, but you'd end up with Thing from The Adam's Family, except it's whatever body part you cast the spell on. Also a head without lungs can't speak. Mimir can stfu and mald.
