Hollywood has been fudging numbers for a while. When We tried getting tickets to Captain Marvel 1 the theater was sold out of all the showings, we finally got 2 seats at a later showing that was also supposed to be packed. To my surprise the theater was nearly empty the entire movie. Some "entity" had purchased all the tickets to make it look more appealing.

Wasn't it kinda rumored Disney bought a lot of tickets for one of the Ms Marvel movies a little while back? I think that's what movie it was where people were posting videos of almost empty theaters that were supposed to he sold out shows. So yeah, now they have a new incentive to do deceptive stuff like that. And if they put it in their advertising budget, they can write the cost off.
