COTU SG Francis Atwoli tells tea workers in South Rift to continue work boycott

COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli has asked tea workers in Sotik, Kericho and Nandi Hills to stay away from work until a meeting convened by the Labour Commission. The meeting will bring together officials of the worker's union and the employers and is expected to resolve the impasse which has seen more than 30,000 tea workers down their tools citing poor pay among other grievances...Atwoli accused the employers of using police to harass workers and union officials vowing that no amount of intimidation will stop the protest.The COTU boss who is also the general secretary of Kenya Plantations and Agricultural Union, said that they will be moving to court to file a contempt case against the employers.
