John gaslights Jamie about not saying hello or goodbye in the scene, and yet he couldn't be bothered to do the same. John always expects his children to go the extra mile for him (In Jamie's case it's 100 extra miles), but due to his huge ego he can't do the same. If you watch the whole scene John refers to the plot of land they are talking about as his. Not his family's, HIS. For all his talk about what's good for the family, he's actually saying what's good for me. John doesn't actually love his children. They are really all means to an end.
