Most definitely would not last. A sad reality of the USA.

I wonder how well it works, if people steal much or not.

Amazing 🤩 not the store, but the people of Japan. Very peaceful people and beautiful culture.

It's nice that you can have that in Japan without having to rely on a vending machine. :) Sadly correct, an empty store here in US...would get robbed and graffiti I think >.<

Even in Japan, there has to be some theft. When people aren't being watched they sometimes steal. Personally I haven't stolen anything since I was a young teenager, but some adults feel a sense of excitement when stealing without getting caught. I guess this store has to figure out how much it loses (from theft) vs. how much it costs to employ more staff. At least one staff member has to stock the store.

Meanwhile, in America, I got invited to a luxury suite to watch a baseball game. It costs several hundred dollars per person and has a ton of amenities laid out as soon as you enter. Free soda, water, chips, private bathroom, etc. There's even TVs all over the room so you can watch out the window, the TVs, or both.

Bro, with a straight face, the room service guy goes, "So yeah, just call me if you want food or to change the volume on the TVs. We can't leave the remotes in the rooms because people keep stealing them."

Can't make this shit up 😂

Japan has a couple of words call .... Loyalty, honor, respect, honesty, humble, integrity, while the USA has words like.., selfish, arrogant, rude.

Wow! That sounds awesome. But yeah, that wouldn't work in most spots in America.

For all those saying “oh this would never last in America”.. You Are Very Very Wrong.
This would never last in an American City, but here in rural ohio i know of Two different stores that are Honor System based.
Y’all forget America is the size of Continental Europe, theres a lot of different cultures and just because you live in a crime-filled city thats lost all decency, doesn’t mean the Whole Country is that way..obviously🙄

I remember quite a few very small shops where the owners lived at the back. They came out when you let them know you were ready to pay.

woah a whole grocarie store without staff!? thats so cool! the closest i have seen stuff like that were i live are on farms were you can buy fresh vegetabls and there you also just pay in a box or at libarys were they sell books that dont get taken often but you can like decide yourself how much you think the book it worth but a whole grocarie shop is on another level!
