2022 Kia EV6: Kia's coolest electric car yet

The Kia EV6 could be one of the best electric cars you can buy right now. Which, when you think about it, is pretty amazing.

After all, Kia was once known as a purveyor of awkwardly styled and poorly made budget cars, so its transformation over the last few years into something of a market leader in the fashionable world of electric cars is deeply impressive.

Offerings such as the Soul EV and the brilliant e-Niro have paved the way, and now, it's the turn of the new EV6 to continue Kia's push to dominance. Part hatchback, part coupe, part shooting brake, the EV6's unique styling grabs attention and, importantly, looks great. It starts from £41,000 for a rear-wheel-drive model with an official range of 328 miles, but it's thought most buyers will go for the four-wheel-drive model, which has a range of 314 miles and costs around £47,500.

In this CarGurus UK video review, Vicky Parrot finds out whether Kia's new electric car offering has the substance to back up the style.

Kia/Hyundai seems to be the most dynamic car manufacturers in the business right now. Everything they do impresses and leads the way in terms of design and innovation surpassing both Honda and Toyota in both those categories. Another solid comprehensive review!

I like the Ioniq 5 a little more but both are incredible looking cars. Vicky is simply one of the best motoring journalists out there.

Vicky always knocks it out of the park with her reviews. EV6 is crazy cool value for the tech you get. Just such a weird rear end.

Great review.I use the steering wheel controls for, volume, mute and track selection for media and just leave the bottom display on climate mode. You can also do media stuff via voice control.I’m glad we still get an option of different ways rather just stuffing everything into a single touch screen.

A great review Vicky, I love the styling of the car inside and out. Kia has really upped its game. This will be another car that needs adding to my test drive list when I come to change. I do think it is a tad on the expensive side compared to some but it looks like an impressive machine. Well done again and thank you for this more in depth review.

Like Vicky, I remember when a sub 10 second 0-60 time was so exciting

Thanks Vicky, another enjoyable review. I really fancy a Taycan but the 200 mile range is just awful compared to cars like this

Surprised that you found the Mach-E more spacious than the EV6. I saw them side by side at an EV event in Shrewsbury and sat in both, and was disappointed at how small the Mach-e felt, it seemed closer to an Audi A3. Mind you, I didn’t compare booth space. The EV6 felt close to a Jaguar, not so quite SUV, and with bags of personality. That rear, that I initially didn’t like, has an Aston Martin feel to it … and although the interior might not outlast the exterior (still not an Audi), it’s a very compelling offering.

Why are everyone so obsessed about putting the charging cables in the frunk?

I can think of a lot of other stuff to put there, that I don't need to use that often, but it is much more comfortable to have the charging cable in the regular boot. After all, we spend money on an electrically opened boot to make life easier - why not put the cable there instead. Certainly here in Sweden, where the front of the car is going to be dirty from snow and slush half of the year, it makes no sense of keeping stuff there that I'm going to need every other time I park the car. It is generally much more cumbersome to open the frunk (lever to pull in the footwell, fumbling for the hood-release under the dirty hood, open the hood, open the frunk lid) compared to one press of a button, get the cable, push another button to close. You don't even have to touch the outside of the car - no risk of getting dirty.

Am I the only one that find this strange?

(CarGurus reviews however are not strange - keep up the good work!)

Totally agree it’s a little bit dark. Why on earth did they not give it a light coloured roof lining?

Few EV6 reviewer said cabin was dark. Why not review version with panoramic sunroof?

Hi, which one would you chose in my scenario between this and the ioniq 5? Through my company salary sacrifice scheme I can get the ev6 gt line at a net cost of £400 pm (all costs included - insurance /servicing / tyres etc) or the ioniq 5 premium at £350. Both 4 year lease. Today I saw both close up at the dealer but still can't decide!

BTW for those who don't know the ioniq 5 premium also has the relaxation seats that go all the way down (driver side), only thing it doesn't have the foot rest part. The kia advertise as relaxation seats but they too don't have the foot rest. I tested them and both were similar, so ppl can go for the better value ioniq 5 premium and have equivalent relaxation seats to the kia ev6.

Why would most people want the 4WD...? The 2WD is perfectly fine for this kind of car
