I'm a long time Fort Lauderdale resident. Fort Lauderdale is not walkable in terms of getting where you need to go but there are lots of nice areas to stroll around. The public school system is not very good. The weather is great, but don't come here if you really hate hot weather. We only get a hurricane on average once every 7 years, and a category 4 or 5 on average once every 15 years. And we are well prepared to deal with them. For most people a hurricane is just an inconvenience. The population here is very diverse. We have people from so may different backgrounds and lifestyles that everybody just accepts it. And there is no state income tax. Different people have different preferences, but most people who live here seem to really like it.

Its so wild how much it's changed in the last 10 years. I just left so kiddo could go to school up north. I'm enjoying the peace and quiet. I lived there 18 years from Ca. Its just too dang much now from traffic, to crime to cost of living. It really used to feel like a chill beach vibe but now it's a city with a beach. They even have ads flashing behind boats while your trying to relax at the beach. There's just no more peace and quiet.

New to your channel. I'm from Miami 1958, then to Ft. Lauderdale/Las Olas Boulevard @1981, to Wilton Manors Townhouse Isle, Hollywood, now over to the West Coast. Looks like the old Chart House you began your program with. Riverwalk was actually the vision of one lady, from what I gathered. Loved loved the Las Olas area but renting became really expensive. Hollywood was just beginning to shoot up housing price-wise. I made a killing on selling my house but would never have been able to afford staying there. Personally, I would not recommend the west coast. I won't get into it. Your video was fantastic, especially seeing how my old stomping grounds has evolved. You are right about the political aspect - it really began diversity population as I was leaving. But before that it was Old Florida money - back before the word "conservative" was sprung upon us - whatever "conservative" means. It was very genteel, very old Coral Gables even before I moved there. Your video was very effective in showing the east from the west sides of Ft. Lauderdale. I'm looking forward to binge-watching your channel.

What they don't tell you: Life here is difficult and very expensive. My car insurance is $2100 per year. Schools are terrible and getting worse. Infrastructure and mass transit is 15 years behind, at least. Brightline is $10-15 per trip MINIMUM. Most people cannot afford to be near the water to the beach. Terrible place to raise kids unless you can afford private schools. Middle class existence is increasingly elusive. Overall, Don't come.

You could do stand up as Christopher Walken. You already sound just like him without trying. Naturally that is.

he brightline is great. I wish it would have been in place back when Bush had it on the ballot 3 times, until he got people to vote it down. that highspeed train should be going all over the country y now.
