Movie Review: Just Mercy

Innocent until proven guilty, right? I wish! Just Mercy tells the true story of a death row inmate who was wrongly convicted of murdering a woman. He and his lawyer had to fight like mad to break free from the corrupt criminal justice system. In this review video, I will tell you my initial reactions to the film. Never have agreed with the Death Penalty for the simple fact of the cost to the taxpayers. Religiously, God will take care of them after a natural death which is much cheaper to keep them in jail until is achieved than the expense of an eye for an eye.

Steffi - I watched this movie for free on youtube. Personally I thought it was decent. I agree with its message -- death penalty bad and massive double standard in our criminal justice system -- but at the same time, I thought it moved pretty slowly and was too obvious. Jamie Foxx and Rob Morgan (Herbert Richardson, the PTSD, stuttering death row inmate) felt the most real, due to their subdued performance.

On the personal note, I used to be in support of capital punishment, but when I researched the subject matter more, I realized how bad of a policy it is. It doesn't save the state any money. The direct opposite is true. It doesn't lower the crime rate or murder rate. It gets applied unfairly among racial and economic lines, as this movie points out. The only argument for the policy is "deserve" and "revenge" factors. As in, emotion over facts.
