My heart goes out to this family. So many losses for one family.

Let this be a wake up call for anyone who does not have working smoke detectors.

If you can't afford one, , the American Red Cross and Philadelphia Fire Department have a program where they will come to your home and install one at no charge, regardless of income status. Outside of Philly, check with your local Fire Department and Red Cross.

There is no telling that it would have made a difference but it certainly would not have made it worse.

No operational smoke alarms, no fire escapes - that's hellishly no good, and not good enough on the part of who owns or runs that row building.

Building managers should be investigated and this seems more planned then anything due to how many people died.

My prayers for healing for those hurt; my prayers for the families, friends and community that lost their loved ones today. I give prayers of thanks for those fire fighters, police officers, EMT’s and medical staff who have rendered aid - God bless you all.

When I was a Fire Inspector for a Major city Colorado I inspected many buildings, at some apartment building I found battery operated smoke detectors, but with no batteries. I asked the apartment manager what has happened to the batteries? He answered me " I can put new batteries in them and by the week end they will be gone, the teenagers steal them" Yes my friends at you-tube, they steal them. Bet you the smoke detectors in this old building had detectors but they don't♨ work with out batteries. So Sad.

Heartbreaking all over, but I can't even start to imagine a kid burning alive or by asphixiation. This needs to be thoroughly investigated.

4-6 smoke detectors inside a building that size? I live in a 3 bedroom house, i have a smoke detector in every room. Even the restrooms and hallway. Several CO2 detectors as well. They are cheap, they dont cost much these days.

How? Winter weather brings more deadly fires then any other time of the year.
