The push towards cars was propelled by super rich oil companies.
There is no American battery lobby, therefore there is no push towards EUCs.

Shane Chen, original inventor of the electric unicycle, runs a company called Inventist. Their products never caught on fire yet, unlike the other brands. Shane focused on safety and durability, as he used the best products he could find. i.e. the original solowheel classic 2013 and earlier had A123 battery cells, which were american manufactured, very good quality, started by an MIT professor. I still use my 2013 solowheel classic. The inventist solowheels are roughly 25 lbs but still have a 16 inch wheel which make it unique. They vibrated instead of beeped, so you always know when it's warning you. It also doesn't have double stick tape, or grip tape, but instead uses long lasting construction.

America is a car-centric society. Everyone is tied personally to their cars.
Convincing a demographic unwilling to try something else is fruitless.

Not that they can't, but right now the passenger vehicle dominates.
Not only that, China is a producer economy, the US is consumer-based.

Made this case to DARPA in 2008-ish (at an industry innovation meeting of CEO's). Cancelled contracts and shunned. Why? Because they were busy shipping US-tech offshore and they didn't want to hear objections. Still waiting for US-g to wake-up and fix it?

Funny, I was just thinking about this recently. In regards to the hoverboards catching fire, It’s kind of ironic how pushing safety so much in the western world actually led to these things becoming *less* safe due to sub par products being allowed in from China. There’s a lesson in there somewhere, but it’s much easier for governments to just ignore the problem…
Unfortunately this hurts everyone in the long run.
