If i had to guess, they were probably win traders which is so common now-a-days, as both no 2 and no3 players on ladder currently are win traders and in last 3 days i have played with 5 win traders in solo pl (M3)

the nita and carl were in the same team but matchmaking is based on the trophy level of the highest teammate so you got matched up with carl and the nita, however due to the fact that their overall trophies were a lot less than yours, you got underdog and hence did not lose any trophies
