Eminonu is a perfect place to get a feel for the real Istanbul visit because it represents more than just tourism. This big transportation center provides glimpses into Istanbul spots' everyday views. Sitting on a bench and watching people go about their daily lives transports you to another world that no travel magazine could ever define.
Next to the mosques in Istanbul, you can find many bazaars. One of them is the 17th century Egyptian Spice Bazaar, where you can buy souvenirs and practice bartering. All is wowed by the ceiling's beautiful and vibrant architecture. While it was once part of the Yeni Mosque complex, it now stands proudly as a separate tourist attraction. Spice and herb aromas pervade the air on a daily basis. Turkish delight, chocolate, and kitchen condiments are among the other items for sale, and they make a special gift for loved ones back home. The floating boats next to Galata in Istanbul have always been a common place to eat in Eminonu. Everyone, when they visit Eminonu, is enthralled by this time-honored tradition, and pictures of the floating restaurants often appear in travel magazines. Serving balik ekmek, or fish, onions, tomatoes, and lettuce in bread, is an inexpensive, tasty, and popular Istanbul street food choice.
Sirkeci is the area squeezed between Sultanahmet and the historical section up the hill and the historical docks below. Like Sultanahmet and the Palace (historical peninsula) this district, too, was one of the earliest Byzantine settlements and lay directly outside of the old palace walls.
Today many people, both Turks and foreigners alike, are rediscovering Sirkeci as a veritable treasure trove of history. A walk through its narrow and winding streets, a glimpse into the workshops of the artisans still continuing traditional trades, and the discovery of the wonderful historical buildings found here is a delightful experience. Further down the hill towards Eminonu one can visit the “New Mosque” and the Egyptian Spice Market, both exciting glimpses into a medieval past.
During Ramadan In Istanbul You can feel free to eat and drink, no one would say a word or look badly. But you should respect the people in fast and should not eat or drink (especially alcoholic drinks) in the very public areas, like pushing into their eyes. And it will be better if you dress modestly to show your respect.
You should keep in mind that the restaurants will be crowded and full for the iftar meal, which is on the sunset time. You should arrange your dinner regarding this issue.
Eminonu and neighboring Sirkeci are also one of the most popular tourists areas in Istanbul, as well as one of the most dynamic, bustling and tourist neighborhood of the historical peninsula. We can also call the area as oriental district. The area is also one of the main transportation hubs in Istanbul.
Strolling around the Eminonu Sqaure, enjoying the market area and lively city atmosphere in the company of historic buildings, having a walking by sea, watching the ferries and rest at the variety of restaurants and cafes around, is one of the best things to do in Eminonu. The historical Egyptian Spice Bazaar, the Sirkeci Train Station and the Yeni Mosque are the main sights of Eminonu and Sirkeci. The back streets of Eminonu and Sirkeci are home to cheap electronic goods and also low-budget restaurants.
The historical Egyptian Spice Bazaar (Misir Carsisi) or so-called Spice Market, is a colorful and mystical covered spice market lined with spice stalls, situated just by the Eminonu sqaure. It is also one of the most popular covered markets in the world, together with famous Grand Bazaar. Also called as Egyptian Spice Market, it is a popular points of interest and a perfect place with the tourists to end their Istanbul visit by shopping for some souvenirs for their beloved ones before leaving Istanbul.
Eminonu and Sirkeci offers wide range of dining opportunities from luxury restaurants to very famous quality restaurants and cafes where both tourists and locals go. The artisan restaurants are also very popular and offer budget dining. You are able to find every kind of food & beverage, Turkish & world cuisine for your taste in Eminonu and Sirkeci region.
Fish sandwich, called as “Balik Ekmek” in Turkish, is a very famous and delicious street food served from the fishing boats, made of grilled white fish, raw onions, and salad stuffed in a half loaf of white bread.
