01 Uddhava Gita from Bhagavata Purana 2.1-4

Weekly class on selected chapters taught by Swami Tadatmananda.
The Uddhava Gita is a small section from the famous Bhagavata Purana in which Sri Krishna imparts powerful Vedantic teachings to his dear friend and devotee, Uddhava, much in the same way that Sri Krishna teaches Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita.

Thank you Swami je, for your bold but practical explanation on the demerits of blind faith. I think not many people have that courage to question things in life, specially in religious matter. To my mind, having strong faith is not flawed but imposing or establishing anything without critical thinking is perhaps flawed approach. In nature, we know very little to date but taking anything as absolute truth may be harmful in spiritual growth. In fact religion is not necessarily based on mere faith but practical knowledge and experience and that is where Advaita shines.

Beloved Swamiji always speaks his mind with clarity and conviction. I admire his views, which reflect the wisdom of his Guru, Swami Dayananda Saraswathi. He rightly denounced Religious Fundamentalism as a product of "Non-Thinking Religious Traditions". In this era of Reason, Hinduism can only preserve its core Upanishadic values by embracing Reason and Science. Advaita Vedanta is founded on verifiable facts and universal truths that are compatible with modern science. Our revered Swami Tadatmananda, a traditional Hindu teacher, is also a voice of reason.

Thank you Swamiji for teaching us this treasure. Yes, Kali Yuga is most of the time misrepresented as the worst Yuga and yes it is true that it brings the worst out of humanity but it is also true that it brings the best. It is like the sword with two edges. Some sages say that "door" between spiritual and material relms are widely open and that is the best time to attain enlightenment. 🙏

Sāyanācarya and Kumārila Bhatta are examples of scholars who view the mythological accounts of the Veda and the Purānas as being arthavādas that attempt to articulate scriptural teachings to the masses.

If Kumārila Bhatta had no issue with interpreting scripture figuratively 1500 years ago, then I can’t see why modern Hindus can’t do the same.
