As an expat, huge thanks for emphasizing learning the LANGUAGE. It's responsible for like 80% of a successful integration. Without the language you will stay a forever alien just wondering around like a tourist. With language, you can socialize, learn more about the culture, history, traditions, etc. I would give another 15% for finding a fitting job and living space (town and apartment) but the rest 5% is basically paperwork and such.

I'm from Spain and or course I've been living here since I was born but, even though I love watching your videos as it is so interesting to know how foreign people see Spain and how you and others interact here being from another country

Dreaming Spanish is an easy introduction to Spanish because it starts with listening. I call it Spanish preschool for adults. It prepares you to then to move on to the harder conventional language learning. James your tips are great! Thank you!!!

James, this feed is by far, one of the most powerful and informative for those looking to migrate to the beautiful country of España. Having gone through the meticulous process myself to BcN, I'd only wish this info was available to smooth out the many kinks I've experienced. Thank you for enlightening and sharing such great content! Keep changing lives. <3

James, you are absolutely correct about hiring a tutor to learn/improve one’s Spanish. I speak at an intermediate level and have studied twice at a university in Santiago de Compostela. A couple of times I worked with an excellent teacher online from a Mexican university. Not only did she understand how the language is used in Spain and Mexico but she explained the subtleties of the language which was fascinating.

Having moved to Spain three years ago without all of this info beforehand, this is EXCELLENT advice. 👌👌👌

Another tip is to take Spanish classes in country too so you can meet people in your new town. It’s made a huge difference for me in allowing me to enjoy myself so much more.

Yes, speaking to people who have already moved is so important as well as learning the language

Great stuff. I would add/ emphasize:
* really understand the wealth tax (At both the country and province level) - This has been hard since the government has been making last minute rules. Clearly this is part of the tax simulation/ getting a good tax person recommendation.
* Visit areas/ schools/ etc before you move
* Think about when you move here, particularly for US citizens - Better to move with less than 183days left in the calendar year so as to not be a tax resident that first year.

Can you make a video for people who aren't American? Everywhere I join on Facebook group. They are talking about visa. I am European. I am more interested how is the job market in Spain.

James, THANK YOU! This is an AMAZING video that packs so much useful information! I'm a native Spanish speaker and recently acquired my Spanish citizenship, so my move to Spain will be much smoother (and I do not take this privilege for granted!) but there's still so much to learn from people like you, who have paved the way for others to learn and be able to make much better-informed decisions. Always enjoy your videos but this one is so so helpful!

You might do a video on finding a reputable international mover. I had a very bad experience with International Sea and Air Shipping (hidden fees, missed deliveries, etc.).

Can you also make a video for people moving from another EU country?

Great video! These are excellent tips and although they can really be valid for any other country, this type of information is important when moving to make that important decision as easy as possible. Greetings!!

Hi James, my Aussie hubby and I (Spanish living in Oz for the last 25 years) have watched many of your videos and I can honestly say you guys have brought us so many laughs and really related to so many cultural shocks he has experienced when going there... By the way, I know you are a Kiwi but you really sound Australian to me... I wanted to ask you if you have any videos on your channel or any contacts regarding student exchange. The only contacts I have in Spain are based in Barcelona but would prefer somewhere where the schools teach in castellano. My 13 and 12 year old boys have Spanish passports but can hardly articulate two sentences in Spanish, and we have decided that Duolingo is never going to teach them enough so we have decided to send them there. Any info you could provide would be much appreciated. Keep up the good work, you guys are great!
