He began integrating a pick into shows as far back as 90, (Bouncin) and was at a turning point late summer 94. By 10/31/94 he’s seen using the pick for the whole show, and it’s hard to find him not using one after that. Yes, I’ve studied this. His and the band’s tone and vibe climbed as a result. Subtle game changer.
And Mike if you ever read this, Geddy Lee has never used a pick. He uses his index finger nail. I believe you recently showed yourself doing this as well. Heck you even said it’s the best way to play.

As a finger style bass player, I’ll always envy the sound of picked bass (especially as a huge fan of Mike Gordon). The tonal clarity you get with a pick is unbeatable. However I don’t think I’ll ever switch, since I’ve developed a style very conducive to finger plucking. There are certain lines/techniques that are basically impossible when using a pick. I prefer the raw feel of the fingers, though I still experiment with picking from time to time.

I dont use pick on bass. But i love the sound of it. A lot of cool things ive seen bassists do with a pick. None of them sexual. Thats either good or bad 🤔

You can pick your nose, you can pick your friends, but you can’t pick your friends bass. Unless your friend buys a bass off of you. Shoulda stuck to the ukulele.
The biggest misconception about Mike Gordon is that his eyes are really close together and his cheeks are really fat.
