This was the first ever episode of The Crystal Maze to be hosted by Ed Tudor-Pole.

Fair play to Ed for coming in to a well established show and making it his own as much as possible after four years of Richard hosting it.

This version of the Ocean zone was the best zone ever! The previous Ocean zone was great, but it's even more fun to be in a shipwreck than a restored ship.

The end of an era, but the start of another one. Farewell Rick and Mumsey, enjoy your boat ride to California via Cairo(!). And Rick was right, he left The Crystal Maze in very good hands.

Rick was an all-time legend, but I am definitely not the only person who prefers Ed. He never tried to copy Rick, he had the personality to do it all his own way.

Notice the few nods - Rick saying "Night Boat to Cairo", which was a hit for Madness and the bike is a reference to Meat Loaf's character Eddie in Rocky Horror Picture Show.

2:31 One of the best things about Ed is he played up the adventure theme far more than Rick did. Rick just said "we will travel around the maze in an anti-clockwise direction"

I’ve been watching all the way through from the beginning. Ed’s doing his best but it feels very uncomfortable not having Richard.

I think Ed was a nicer and more helpful maze master than Richard. He'd give more hints and try to help more with contestants. However, the games in his run had become a lot more creative and devious, which counterbalanced his supportiveness.

Notice how this episode uses slightly different sound effects than the other episodes such as the photographs of the team and the sound of the doors opening & closing in the future zone these weren't used in the following episodes.

45:43-is the dome space smaller here? Big shoes for ETP to fill but I love how eccentric he was in his own way, didn't try to copy Richard and had such a positive quirky spirit. Richard will always have a special place in my heart but I love them both! Also 34:21 will always make me laugh the way Ed just pops in the window! 🤣
