Historic Cold Spring Village, Cape May, New Jersey
Tucked into a 22 acre plot of land near the seashore resorts of Cape May and Wildwood, Historic Cold Spring Village takes visitors on a trip back in time to a simpler, quieter era.
More than two dozen historic homes from Cape May and Cumberland Counties are clustered to-gether much the way the houses in the original Cold Spring Village were grouped together back in the 1800's. The village not only preserves historic homes, it also recreates life in the 19th Century.
Special events throughout the season focus on various aspects of 19th Century life, whether it's the corn festival celebrating the corn harvest, the quilt weekend or the Revolutionary and Civil War weekends - when dozens of "soldiers" recreate battle camps.
The 1800s come to life when you visit 27 restored, historic buildings on a 30-acre site where interpreters in period clothing demonstrate blacksmithing, woodworking, printing, broom making, bookbinding, pottery, tinsmithing, basket weaving and open hearth cooking. The Village is also home to an organic farm complete with a horse, chicken, sheep and more.
Historic Cold Spring Village is a non-profit educational institution established as an Early American open-air living history museum. Its purpose is three-fold: historic preservation, history education and heritage tourism. This is accomplished by promoting New Jersey history through extensive programs utilizing the architecture, lifestyles, arts, history and culture found in a rural South Jersey village during the early to mid-19th century. The Village endeavors to provide visitors with an understanding of their cultural heritage through a personal encounter with the past.
