Enjoyed that. Grew up with my grandparents in the '60's. This brings me back to their mannerisms and speech.

Just noticed John Huston and Truman Capote wrote the screenplay. That explains the marvelous dialogue.

The opening speech from Jennifer Jones was a puzzle to me back in 1958 when I first saw this film on television. The sentiments heard afresh and at a time I'm 75 have much more meaning. We make criminals and dangerous fools exalted to rule over us while we work and die putting gold in their pockets and handing over our sons and daughters to their evil ways.

This was only a few years before his death by throat cancer. He was an excellent lead man for sure! Peter really shows serious early aging. I guess all the steaks and booze took a toll on him. Morely always funny. He was hilarious in Foyles War although quite aged. Thanks, its a wonderful movie.

Jennifer Jones has the ULTIMATE lisp and self assured carriage. We must preserve every frame of her!

Quite an unusual film for all involved. Very quirky, almost serial. It is certainly funny as the dialogue swings from somewhat normal to criminal to love to almost the absurd. Delightful to watch, as, for example, Bogart's character doesn't particularly go all out to state that Quendoline is nuts!

I had great respect for Gina Lollobrigida. She didn’t like acting, didn’t want to be an actress, she wanted to be a photojournalist. She made movies to buy the photographic equipment she would need and to build a nest egg then pursued her dream.
