This is a mind-blowing, world-view changing interview. Not only do I share my own Ayahuasca experiences and how they've transformed my life, my guest Rachel Harris, PhD shares how she was called to research this amazing plant medicine from the jungle. Her research studies how the Ayahuasca vine has affected, healed, and transformed the lives of people around the world.

SHOW INTRODUCTION:

If you’ve ever struggled to find meaning in life, or with anxiety, depression, addiction, or PTSD, then do we have the Listening to Ayahuasca show for you!

Today I’ll be talking with researcher and psychologist Rachel Harris, PhD. She’s received a National Institute of Health New Investigator’s award, published more than forty scientific studies in peer-reviewed journals and is the author of a brilliant new read that’s sure to change lives, Listening to Ayahuasca: New Hope for Depression, Addiction, PTSD, and Anxiety .

And that’s just what I want to talk with her about today, about wisdom from the plant world, for hope, guidance, healing, and direction in our lives.

MORE ON RACHEL HARRIS, PhD:

Psychologist Rachel Harris, PhD is the author of Listening to Ayahuasca: New Hope for Depression, Addiction, PTSD and Anxiety. She was in private practice for thirty-five years working with people interested in psychospiritual development. During a decade working in research, Rachel received a National Institutes of Health New Investigator’s Award and published more than forty scientific studies in peer-reviewed journals. She has also consulted to Fortune 500 companies and the United Nations.

In 2005 Rachel traveled to a retreat center in Costa Rica and serendipitously found herself with the opportunity to drink ayahuasca tea with Ecuadorian shamans. The morning after her first ceremony, Rachel began asking questions about the therapeutic potential of this medicine. She conducted a three-year research project with Lee Gurel, PhD that resulted in “A Study of Ayahuasca Use in North America,” published in the Journal of Psychoactive Drugs (Summer, 2012).

I literally just returned from my first ceremony. I don’t even know what to say. My life is definitely changed. These grounds were sacred with horses and they are drawn to is as we walked passed them leaving and these horses just stare into my eyes as if to say “everything will be okay”. I can’t stop crying 🙏 just wow! Amazing

I read her book and it is helping me put into words what i am struggling to express while integrating my Ayahyasca ceremonies She seems to embody the values and traits that she says we should expect from healers, shamans, therapists and guides. “The heart has reasons of which reason does not know.” The intellect is only our CPU. Our emotions from our hearts are directly connected to the reservoir of our truth and wisdom that lies in our subconscious. Without emotional intelligence, we are just clever monkeys with smart phones. Thank you for your work Rachel Harris.

Michael, you express joviality and at the beginning I thought you were on our early 20's til you mentioned you were born in 1970. The interview was great. I watched so much from Rachel and am reading the book, so not much new stuff for me but it was great to hear your insights and Rachel ones on the journey with this unique brew. ;-) Marcos

I think ALL governments in the world should stop building prisons. Instead, why not have one judgment for all offenders that will last a lifetime? They have to complete an Ayahuasca ceremony.

i believe that if our society had rites of passage for the young as they aged up to adulthood, that our world would be completely different in a good way. these plants are syngergistic in our body. cannabis as an example we have receptors for, endocannabinoid system ECS.
