Really good tips. Back when I was younger, I practiced martial arts, and learning to fall is one of the first things they teach you in grappling arts. And they basically teach you to fall exactly the way you describe - you want as much surface area of your body making contact at the exact same time, to spread out the impact across as much of your body as possible.

I might catch some flak for this, but if you have any loved ones, people who you care about, family, etc... you owe it to them to always wear a helmet, especially when you're out in city streets. Traumatic brain injury can happen in an instant, and it won't always be your fault, either, just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Call me an old fart, but I wouldn't be of any use to my wife as a vegetable.

Finally a useful city skate tutorial. I'm tired of these smooth street tutorials. yeah, we get it, go around the big stuff. But finally roads that look more like mine and a tutorial on how to guide through it

You need to be able to quickly judge & respond to every situation. Don’t go faster than you can make a decision on how to maneuver & actually stop if you need to. There is a big part of city skating that is mental skill.

This is exactly what i needed!
there's almost no videos or blogs on the ACTUAL how-to of street skating in quads!
I don't own in-lines and i'm new to quad skating so i just want to use what i've got.
I always wear wrist guards but i've gotten into habit of falling while crouching lol

#1 - 0:00 - be a train. Skating through the city is way easier when you have tracks.
#2 - 0:25 - wear shorts with only one leg. You'd be surprised how unaerodynamic short legs flapping around in the wind are. Half the legs, half the wind resistance!

One of the best skate video I've encountered because where I live is like those cracked streets you have shown. 👍

I only skate indoors and haven’t skated outside in ab 10yrs and today was a reality check because I thought I could go to a local park and peacefully skate on a seemingly nice pavement trail, it was anything but peaceful lol I think it was more of my fear of going too fast and having no control, I forgot hills were a thing . Thank u for making this video and I have a lot of respect for your skills. I clearly have a whole lot to learn.

I'm one of the people who has asked for this, so thanks! I'd likely start in low-traffic areas, so I especially appreciate the heads up about glass. I hadn't though about that.

I’ve been mostly city skating since skating rinks are far from where I live, and I just realized I’ve been doing quite a few of these without realizing. But a lot of these really helped me, and I’m thinking about investing in in-lines so I can do a lot of this stuff since I live in a place with lots of uneven surfaces.

Don’t let your rollerblade wheels go in the grooves in the road or especially side walks. Look for patch’s of lawn or grass to slow down on or crash on. Always have one foot a little further then the other, I’m right handed but I always lead with my left foot even though it’s weaker then my right.

I'm planning to spend my summer learning to city skate! The point about falling is super important. I already have the muscle memory of "fall by sitting down" from years of downhill sking, hopefully my body will carry that habit over

Hitting us with the jet set radio shuffle was a nice start to the video.

You’ve got balls of rock hard steel to be doing all those dazzling moves around a moving train. 7:15.

One of my biggest fears is tripping on a curb and ending up underneath a bus.

I started learning back in December at age 43, with my ultimate objective being to use skates to commute to and from gym on pavements and cycle lanes. I've been looking for a while for a video which covers things to consider when transferring to city skating (which will not happen for a while until I'm comfortable). This one has covered a lot of ground (if you'll excuse the pun)! Have a like!

Thanks for these tips! I'm trying to learn outdoor skating now and took my quads to a paved walking trail the other day. Because I'm new it helped a lot to have a friend walking with me to give me confidence. I'll keep practicing!

Awesome beginners guide, definitely has helped me as someone recently starting at 26. Could you do a video on skating backwards if you haven't already. The technique from static, keeping balance and coordinating feet with shoulder rotation. Something im struggling with at the moment. Love the channel :)
